Bicycles are getting more and more dependable and their ranges are being increased by the use of Lithium Ion Batteries, coupled together with a 300 watt brushless hub Electric Motor. I found it very amusing that my neighborhood kids were cocky enough to challenge me to a cross town race in my car....against their new bicycles. I laughed..HARD! at these little 14 year olds. The funniest thing is that they were totally serious, so I let my other head do the thinking for a bit, and took them up on their challenge/bet. The stakes were; I cough up $20 if I loose and they mow my lawn, and wash my car if they loose..
The route was pretty basic, but they knew how to play. They made it so I had to hit some traffic through the busy part of town. We took off, and I (in my M3) took off fast, to get ahead of them before the city streets got crowded. I was way out on them when I hit Main St. then the traffic started. As I am sitting at a light, my two neighbors fly by me and continue to the River Trail opening where they get on and take off out of sight. If they can take the river trail, I can take the freeway right? I hop on the freeway, and can see them hauling ass on the river trail, but they are not pedaling. I exit the freeway and at this point, I am not playing anymore. I am revving out my car and using the brakes heavily. I take some little shortcuts through some alleys and backstreets and arrive at the Seven-Eleven that we decided would be the final race destination. I don't see them anywhere and am confident that I won, and then they walk out of Seven-Eleven, slurrpees in hand, and giant grins on their faces. WHAT!!!??? Where are your bikes!!?? They are laughing, and not even tired, and they say that they even had enough time to hide, and lock their bikes up before they got their slurpees, so I wouldn't see them. I was thoroughly AMAZED. WOW! these two 14 year olds beat me across town with bicycles against me in my BMW. I coughed up the $20 and asked them.... HOW!!!!??? They laughed and said that their bikes were Lithium Ion powered Electric Bicycles made by a company called X-Treme. The bikes were fitted with brushless hub mounted motors, concealed Lithium Ion Batteries, and Controllers. I was still in awe. The X-treme XB-300Li Electric Bicycles were truly impressive. My neighbors knew they were gonna win. I found out later that they challenged my other neighbor buddy to the same race, and he suggested that they hit me up, since he knows I am into racing and competition. Hahah. I have one of these bikes on order and can't wait to ride them. They go 20mph without pedaling, and have gears, and shocks, and disk brakes. I am into it. Electric Bikes FTW!!!
